Less than a month before the first round of elections, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) faces a more unfavorable scenario on different fronts, according to the Quaest poll commissioned by GLOBO and TV Globo and released yesterday. The PT candidate still leads the race in the first round, but the data reveal a negative trend in voting intention, government approval and voter perception on topics such as debt and corruption.
In the simulated second round, Lula and PL candidate Flavio Bolsonaro tied numerically again for the first time since March. Although the fluctuations occurred within the two-point margin of error at each moment analyzed, the overall picture presented by the institute is one of worsening for the incumbent candidate.
According to the institute's analysis, this scenario is considered atypical in Brazilian electoral history, since candidates seeking re-election normally tend to improve their indicators throughout the campaign, and not the opposite. Vera Magalhães commented on the movement, classifying it as very negative for Lula.
