When Ronaldo Caiado was chosen by PSD to run for President of the Republic, allies calculated that the governor of Goiás would need around R$ 100 million to run a muscular campaign. The amount would be close to the spending cap for the first round set by the Electoral Court, of R$ 88.6 million, and would represent almost a quarter of the R$ 421 million the party received from the Electoral Fund this year.
The problem is that, in addition to the presidential campaign, the funds need to be distributed among candidates for state governments, the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, and state legislative assemblies. This calculation has worried party members, who face the difficult task of balancing resources across all candidacies.
Lately, the possibility of Caiado receiving R$ 60 million in the first round has been discussed internally, as published by CNN. Party leaders deny that a set amount for the presidential candidacy has already been established.
The uncertainty fuels a concern among candidates and party officials: that PSD will cut corners on its candidates' campaigns to prioritize Caiado's presidential race, the Senate, and state governments.
