A recent analysis suggests that wrist-worn sleep monitors may adequately reflect how a person perceives their own sleep. These devices can estimate metrics such as total sleep duration and its efficiency, but these measurements do not always match the user's perceived sleep quality or how they feel the next day.
In a study published in April in the journal Sleep Medicine, researchers analyzed data from five previous studies, involving a total of 2,006 participants. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the accuracy of wearable devices in sleep monitoring.
The results indicated that there is agreement between the metrics recorded by sleep monitoring devices and users' subjective perception of their rest. However, researchers warn that the clock may indicate that the person slept well, even when the body and mind say otherwise, highlighting the difference between the objective data collected and the actual sleep experience.
