The new round of the Quaest survey, released on Monday, reveals a challenging scenario for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in a potential second round in Southeast Brazil. The PT candidate registered 34% of voting intentions in the region, representing a drop compared to the 40% obtained in July.
Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), from the PL party, appears ahead of the president in the region, with 43% of voting intentions. The politician experienced significant growth, going from the 37% recorded in July to the current level, where he remained in the last two Quaest surveys.
The researchers warn, however, that the movements of both candidates fall within the margin of error limit for this regional breakdown, which is three percentage points plus or minus. This means that the difference between the two candidates is not considered statistically significant.
Both Lula and Bolsonaro concentrated most of their campaign agendas over the past month among the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro, which make up the Southeast region, considered strategic for any presidential race in Brazil.
