The Inspectorate-General of Health Activities (IGAS) announced an inspection action at Hospital de Almada, in the district of Setúbal, following this health unit's decision to suspend the voluntary pregnancy termination (IVG) consultation.
The inspection process fundamentally aims to ascertain how the decision to close the service was carried out, as well as to assess the organization of healthcare that will be provided to women affected by this suspension.
Hospital de Almada is one of the units of Centro Hospitalar Barreiro Montijo, EPE, and the suspension of the IVG consultation raises concerns about women's access to this reproductive health service in the region.
IGAS, as the inspecting authority of the health sector in Portugal, will verify the conditions under which this decision took place and ensure that patients' rights continue to be guaranteed in accordance with current legislation.
