Mozambique currently has 12,178 active non-profit institutions in the country, a number that represents a decrease of 0.6% compared to the previous period. These organizations are mostly composed of churches, although they also include other entities from the non-profit sector.
Despite the reduction in the number of institutions, employment in this sector grew significantly, reaching 106,915 workers, which represents an increase of 7.7% compared to the previous period.
The data was collected by the National Statistics Institute (INE) of Mozambique and was made available today to the Lusil news agency, which had access to the report with the updated statistics.
The non-profit institutions sector thus continues to play a relevant role in the Mozambican economy, not only due to the number of existing organizations, but also due to its capacity to generate employment, even in a context of slight contraction in the number of active institutions.
