End of Angola's dividends yields zero at BPI

The Portuguese bank BPI has stopped receiving dividends from Angola. The bank's dividend policy determines that the totality of the results from its international operations is delivered to shareholder Caixabank.

Since the beginning of the decade, BPI received 356 million euros from Luanda. This value represents the profits from the bank's Angolan operation that were transferred to Portugal.

Caixabank, as the majority shareholder of BPI, is the main beneficiary of this dividend distribution policy. The transfer of international results to the main shareholder has now ended with regard to Angola.

The closure of this dividend source marks a significant change for BPI, which no longer has access to these financial flows from its former operation in Angola.
