Nikolai Mladenov, senior representative for Gaza of the "Peace Council" established by US President Donald Trump, warned today that the two-state solution may become impossible.
The official pointed out that the lack of progress in Gaza, combined with the resurgence of violence in the West Bank, are the main threats to this solution, which advocates for the coexistence of an Israeli State and a Palestinian State.
Mladenov served as the UN Special Envoy for the Middle East, having also held the position of Special Coordinator for the peace process in the region.
The warning comes at a time of new escalation of tension in the area, with Hamas and Israel exchanging fire last week, which has been hindering international diplomatic efforts.
