The Socialist Party of Ílhavo requested the resignation of Vice-President Maria Eugénia Pinheiro. The request comes after Maria Eugénia Pinheiro herself announced at the last public meeting that, from September, she would exercise the mandate part-time. This decision to switch to part-time work motivated the reaction of the local PS, which considers this position incompatible with the responsibilities of the vice-president role. The party believes that a part-time mandate is not appropriate for someone who holds a position as a direct assistant to the mayor.
This is not the first time questions have arisen about the compatibility between political mandates and other professional activities, with legislation allowing elected local officials to exercise functions part-time, receiving a proportional salary reduction.
