São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), a candidate for reelection, did not participate in the traditional September 7th civic-military parade held at the Anhembi Sambadrome, in the north zone of the capital. It was the first time he missed the event during his three-year term, being represented by Vice Governor Felício Ramuth. São Paulo Mayor Ricardo Nunes was also present, but neither of them spoke to the press.
Due to the intense cold, with a wind chill of just nine degrees, the event was quite empty. Even so, more than 10,000 participants marched, including representatives from the Armed Forces, public security agencies, civil institutions and schools.
Instead of participating in the parade, Tarcísio de Freitas prioritized his campaign schedule and attended a meeting with church workers from the World Church. PL presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro also showed up at the event, which was only later added to the official schedule.
