Castelo de Leiria and the Aqueduct of Óbidos are among the 21 finalist monuments of the 7 Wonders of Portugal initiative. The two heritage sites from the Leiria region were selected for the final phase of this competition that elects the most emblematic monuments of the country.
The National Grand Final is scheduled for September 12, the date on which the result of this race to the seven national treasures will be known. The event promises to be a highlight moment for Portuguese heritage, bringing together the most significant monuments from different regions of the country.
This nomination represents a recognition of the historical and cultural importance of these two monuments for the region and for Portugal. Castelo de Leiria, with its long history linked to the founding of Portugal, and the Aqueduct of Óbidos, a notable example of hydraulic engineering, now compete with other heritage sites from across the national territory.
