Government and EIB agree credit line for houses left out of the PRR

SAPO Notícias7 September 2026 at 18:18

The Portuguese Government announced this Monday a credit line of 1.5 billion euros intended to support the construction and rehabilitation of houses that were left out of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. This measure comes as a response to housing needs that were not covered by the European recovery program.

The first tranche of this financing, worth 500 million euros, has already been formally signed with the European Investment Bank. This signing represents the concretized beginning of financial support for the housing sector in Portugal.

The credit line aims to fill gaps left by the PRR regarding access to housing. With this agreement, the aim is to boost construction and rehabilitation projects that would otherwise not have available financing through traditional European funds.
