King Charles III sent a letter, made public this Monday (7), stating that Prince Harry and Meghan, duke and duchess of Sussex, are not authorized to participate in official engagements while in the United Kingdom. The document, sent on behalf of the king by the Lord Chamberlain, was addressed to Harry's team, government departments, military authorities, and to the Lord Lieutenants, the legal representatives of the monarch in the country.
The letter makes clear that the couple will continue to be unable to use the title of "Their Royal Highnesses" (HRH) and will remain as "private citizens." According to the British network BBC, any engagement carried out by the Sussexes will be done privately and will not represent the British Royal Family.
Harry and Meghan returned to the United Kingdom last month with their children Archie and Lilibet, after having left the country to live in the United States, in California. Charles III's letter makes clear that the Sandringham Agreement, previously signed, remains valid and is the basis for the monarchy's position regarding the couple.
