Largest European carbon capture facility inaugurated in the Netherlands

The largest carbon capture facility in Europe was inaugurated in the Netherlands. The facility is located in Sluiskil.

Over a period of 15 years, approximately 12 million tonnes of CO2 are expected to be removed from the facilities in Sluiskil.

The captured carbon dioxide will be sequestered in Norway, at a depth of 2.6 kilometres below the seabed.

Lisbon achieved compliance with nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) limit values at all air quality monitoring stations in 2025, including the iconic Avenida da Liberdade, marking the first year since the Covid-19 pandemic (2020-2022) that the Portuguese capital fully meets this standard. The Lisbon City Council recalled that during the pandemic crisis, the reduction in economic activity and vehicle traffic caused an exceptional drop in emissions and concentrations of atmospheric pollutants, allowing comparisons with current levels of recovery to normalcy.

IPO-Porto performs more than 73 thousand Radiotherapy sessions in one year

The Portuguese Oncology Institute of Porto (IPO-Porto) performed more than 73 thousand Radiotherapy sessions in 2025, treating 4,768 new patients, in a service considered the largest on the Iberian Peninsula. Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, five linear accelerators are being replaced with more advanced equipment, in an investment of approximately 38 million euros, of which 10.6 million are destined for the acquisition of the accelerators. The institute is also preparing the construction of the National Protontherapy Center, with the start planned for 2029.
