A recent study has brought the glymphatic system back to the center of Alzheimer's disease research. This structure, described as a fluid circulation network, plays a fundamental role in the elimination of brain waste.
Researchers point out that the glymphatic system may be involved in the removal of proteins associated with Alzheimer's, such as beta-amyloid and tau, whose accumulation is a known characteristic of the disease.
However, scientists caution that it is not possible to confirm that a failure in this system causes Alzheimer's. The relationship between the functioning of the glymphatic system and the development of the disease remains to be clarified.
