They told you that you don't have experience in a job interview? Expert says don't answer "I learn fast" and explains what to say

Career coach Elena Lucas warns that answering "I learn fast" in a job interview when questioned about lack of experience is too generic and unconvincing. Instead, she argues that the candidate should avoid panicking or apologizing for the lack of experience.

The first step is to identify transferable skills acquired in other contexts, such as internships, studies, projects, or activities. For example, someone without experience in a marketing agency may have organization, leadership, or team and budget management skills developed through university activities.

The second step is to prove with concrete examples that you have already learned quickly in the past, using situations from internships, academic work, volunteering, or personal projects. The difference lies in swapping a vague promise for real proof of adaptability.

The third element involves demonstrating that the candidate has researched the company and can relate their skills to the specific needs of the organization, transforming the response from "I don't have experience, but..." to "I don't have this specific experience, but I have these abilities and I know how they can be useful here".
