The opposition councilor José Manuel Silva returned this Monday, August 7th, from vacation that he classified as "excellent." After the rest period, Silva returned to publicly intervene on various municipal management matters.

In his intervention, José Manuel Silva expressed concerns in several areas, including the tourism sector. The opposition councilor also returned to address the MetroBus project, which has been the subject of debate in the city council.

Additionally, Silva directed criticism at the IMI (Municipal Property Tax), questioning the way this tax is being managed or applied. His statements come in the context of returning to political activity after the summer vacation period.

Tomar approves two-euro tourist tax and estimates raising 300 thousand euros per year

The Municipal Chamber of Tomar unanimously approved the final version of the tourist tax regulation of two euros per overnight stay, estimating to raise around 300 thousand euros per year. The value results from approximately 150 thousand annual overnight stays (after exemptions), and the revenue will be destined for the maintenance of public space, tourist promotion and cultural support. The regulation raises from 12 to 13 years the minimum age for application of the tax and provides for exemptions, including for pilgrims. The proposal now goes to voting at the Municipal Assembly and subsequent publication in the Official Gazette.
