The Standing Committee of Parliament approved unanimously the holding of a plenary session to discuss the censure motion presented by Chega against the Government. The vote took place without opposition among the members present.
The debate and vote on the censure motion are scheduled for Tuesday. The Chega party, which presented the motion, intends to censure the performance of the current Executive in office.
The rejection of the motion is considered practically guaranteed. The defeat of the populist right-wing party is mainly due to the position taken by the PS leader, who has already ensured that he will not provoke a political crisis with his vote.
With this motion, Chega intends to demonstrate political strength and pressure the Government, but the lack of sufficient support in the Assembly of the Republic makes any governmental consequence unlikely.
