Tangerine Rent-a-Car and miio, two Portuguese companies in the mobility and technology sectors, announced a partnership to integrate the planning and monitoring of electric vehicle charging into the rental service. Through the miio app, Tangerine customers will be able to locate charging stations along their route, check prices, estimate costs, and monitor charging sessions carried out.
This initiative aims to address one of the main barriers to electric vehicle adoption in the rent-a-car sector, which is the uncertainty surrounding station availability, pricing, and the charging process. The partnership aims to reduce complexity and make choosing an electric vehicle easier for customers.
The partnership also includes the integration of a miio charging calculator on Tangerine's website, allowing users to estimate costs before the trip and compare different options based on the vehicle and planned route. Daniela Simões, co-founder and CEO of miio, highlighted that car rental can be one of the main entry points for electric mobility.
Adding to this partnership, 30 new electric vehicles are joining Tangerine's Portuguese operations, which currently has a fleet of 900 vehicles.
