The cost of housing is directly linked to the value that Portuguese people make available for food. A study carried out in the European Union reveals that in Portugal almost 40% of household expenses are associated with housing.
As a result of this financial pressure, Portuguese people are opting for less healthy foods. Fish, meat, vegetables, and fruit are bought less than other foods harmful to health.
The study demonstrates the relationship between the growing weight of housing costs and citizens' food choices, showing how household expenses limit access to a more balanced diet.
