The September 7th Parade on Avenida Presidente Vargas in downtown Rio featured a large public turnout despite the cold and rain. Many families attended with their children holding little flags, wearing coats, rain capes, and using umbrellas to protect themselves from the bad weather.
The event, however, was marked by the absence of important political representatives. The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Cavaliere, and the acting governor, Ricardo Couto, did not attend the parade. Only the secretaries of Military Police and Civil Police were present.
The parade began at 9:30 AM at Candelária and brought together 6.6 thousand military personnel from the Three Forces and Auxiliary Forces, as well as representatives from public security agencies, veterans, students, and civil institutions. Also participating were 190 vehicles, firefighters, and members of the Municipal Guard.
Before the official start, traditional opening ceremony acts were held, including the Troop Review.
