Chaves hosted, on September 4 and 5, the third edition of the Colloquium on Inclusion and Diversity, an event promoted by CERCICHAVES with the support of the Municipality of Chaves. The meeting took place at the Auditorium of the Cultural Center and brought together researchers, teachers, health professionals, and representatives of entities related to inclusion to discuss the challenges of inclusion and the promotion of quality of life and well-being.
Over the two days, topics such as inclusive education and the transition to adult life, mental health, artificial intelligence, public policies, rights of people with disabilities, self-determination, and citizenship were addressed.
In the opening session, the president of the Municipality of Chaves, Nuno Vaz, advocated for the need to transform debate into concrete responses, particularly in the areas of accessibility, mobility, and integration into the community, emphasizing that inclusion is a responsibility that involves the entire society. The initiative also featured the participation of the Secretary of State for Social Action and Inclusion, Clara Marques Mendes, who highlighted the importance of diversifying social responses and ensuring solutions appropriate to the needs of people with disabilities.
The colloquium concluded with a call to strengthen joint work between public entities, institutions, professionals, families, and the community, aiming to promote greater autonomy, participation, and equality of opportunities.
