The Ministry of Justice, through the Institute for Financial Management and Justice Equipment, will distribute more than 24,000 new IT equipment items to Justice bodies by the end of the year. The total investment amounts to more than 17 million euros, 100% funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan. Minister Rita Alarcão Júdice stated that this is how to modernise Justice, with planning, rigour and concrete investment in the conditions of those working in the field.
Of the 17 million euros, approximately 13 million are earmarked for the acquisition of 16,162 laptop computers, 3.85 million for 5,856 desktop computers and 163,000 euros for 2,530 monitors. The Directorate-General for the Administration of Justice also made an additional purchase of 9,204 monitors for magistrates, prosecutors and court officials, in an investment of 1.9 million euros.
The distribution covers 13 bodies and services in the Justice area, including courts, the Centre for Judicial Studies, the Judicial Police, Prison Services, the Registry Office and the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences. The operation involves a first phase of distribution to Justice services and continues over the coming months.
The procedure was launched by IGFEJ in October 2025, following a survey of the needs of the different bodies. The renewal of the IT infrastructure aims to provide updated hardware and software, strengthen system security and increase professionals' mobility, allowing better conditions for work in different locations.
