Doctor Gassi Paola de Souza Mazia, 37 years old, was stabbed to death on Saturday night (5), inside the apartment where she lived, in Maringá, in northern Paraná. Her husband, lawyer João Vitor Domingues Romeiro, 25 years old, was arrested in flagrant delicto. The Civil Police are investigating the case as femicide.
According to the police, the couple had a troubled relationship and had recently gotten back together. An argument reportedly occurred before the attack. Gassi died at the scene. The couple's son, an eight-month-old baby, was in the apartment and was not injured. The child was placed in the care of the victim's family members.
After the crime, Romeiro was found by the Military Police at his mother's house in Mandaguari, approximately 30 kilometers from Maringá. According to the Military Police, he confessed to the officers that he had killed his wife. The lawyer had injuries caused by a bladed weapon and was taken to the University Hospital of Maringá, where he remained hospitalized under police guard.
Gassi worked as a family doctor in the Maringá region.
