Government prepares agricultural diesel subsidy to curb impact on food prices

Sábado7 September 2026 at 13:37

The Government is preparing an agricultural diesel subsidy to curb the impact of rising fuel prices on food. The measure comes in response to the significant rise in energy costs in the primary sector.

The Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion considered the increase in diesel costs in agriculture "particularly concerning". This concern is related to the cascading effect that higher production costs can have on final food prices.

The agricultural diesel subsidy aims to mitigate the burden of fuel on farmers' production costs, seeking to maintain the economic sustainability of the sector and prevent inflationary pressures on consumer food prices.
