The European Union carried out an enforcement action between May and July of this year to verify the compliance of safety information for products sold through e-commerce platforms. The objective was to ensure that consumers receive adequate information about the risks associated with the products they purchase online.
The enforcement action analyzed almost 1,700 listings on 35 online marketplaces, covering a wide range of products sold on the internet. During this operation, several failures were identified in the way safety information is communicated to consumers.
As a result of the action, 560 orders were issued regarding listings considered non-compliant, revealing a significant rate of non-compliance. These orders aim to correct the identified deficiencies and ensure that sellers comply with consumer information standards.
The action is part of the ongoing work of European authorities to strengthen product safety in the digital single market and protect consumers from potential risks associated with incomplete or misleading safety information.
