The Secretary-General of the Socialist Party, António Costa, visited a fuel station in the Spanish city of Tui, taking advantage of the proximity to the Portuguese border to draw attention to the price differences in fuels between the two countries.
Costa warned that Portugal is losing competitiveness in relation to Spain, suggesting that Portuguese consumers are crossing the border to buy cheaper fuels.
The socialist leader reiterated that the Portuguese government has already obtained revenues exceeding one billion euros from the increase in gasoline and diesel prices, emphasizing that this fiscal gain has weighed heavily on consumers' pockets.
The visit to Tui took place in the context of a trip that also included the municipality of Vila Nova de Cerveira, in the district of Viana do Castelo, at a time when fuel prices in Portugal continue to be significantly higher than in the neighboring country.
