Nuno Cardoso, former mayor of Porto City Council, died at 64 at the Hospital de Santo António after a prolonged illness. An engineer by profession, Nuno Cardoso led the Porto municipality between 1999 and 2001, after taking the position following Fernando Gomes's departure to the Government. The former mayor leaves a legacy of public service to the city of Porto, having completed the term that remained unfulfilled by his predecessor. The news of his death marks the end of a life dedicated to engineering and local politics.

Tomar approves two-euro tourist tax and estimates raising 300 thousand euros per year

The Municipal Chamber of Tomar unanimously approved the final version of the tourist tax regulation of two euros per overnight stay, estimating to raise around 300 thousand euros per year. The value results from approximately 150 thousand annual overnight stays (after exemptions), and the revenue will be destined for the maintenance of public space, tourist promotion and cultural support.
