Scientists from the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere, IPMA, and the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, IEO, will conduct a joint scientific campaign to assess the abundance of sardine born this year in the Atlantic waters of the Iberian Peninsula.
The campaign, designated IBERAS0926, will take place between September 12 and 28 on board the oceanographic vessel Ramon Margalef.
The main objective of this scientific expedition is to collect data on young sardine populations in Iberian waters, allowing scientists to assess the current state and forecast the future of this species in the coastal zones of Portugal and Spain.
This collaboration between Portuguese and Spanish scientific institutions aims to obtain crucial information for the management and conservation of North Atlantic fisheries resources, at a time when sardine is a species of great economic and environmental importance for both countries.
