The four municipalities in the district of Bragança are among the 19 municipalities in mainland Portugal that are at maximum rural fire danger. In addition to these, more than 80 municipalities distributed across several districts, including Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Leiria, Coimbra, Setúbal, Portalegre, Évora and Beja, are at very high danger level. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts that this risk level will remain elevated in some regions at least until Tuesday.
IPMA classifies rural fire danger into five levels, from low to maximum. This assessment is based on various meteorological parameters, including air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and the amount of precipitation recorded in the previous 24 hours.
Due to adverse weather conditions and the intense heat forecast for today on mainland Portugal, IPMA placed the districts of Évora, Faro, Setúbal, Lisboa, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre under yellow warning until 21:00. This warning is issued when there is a risk for activities dependent on weather conditions.
The weather forecast indicates that the day will be marked by hot weather with mostly clear skies, with temporarily cloudy periods on the North and Centre coast. The wind will be light or moderate, with minimum temperatures between 14 degrees Celsius in Braga and 24 degrees in Faro, and maximum temperatures between 25 degrees in Aveiro and Porto up to 39 degrees in Évora.
