Roberto Gonçalves, elected to the Ribeira Brava Parish Assembly by Chega, denounced this Monday, through a statement sent to the press, the conditions in which the irrigation water pipes on Rua dos Dragoeiros were left. The complaint arises following an intervention that altered the irrigation system's route and installed covers for changing the water course directly on the public road.
According to the local official, the affected farmers complain that, to change the water's path, they are forced to lean over or even enter the pipe itself. This situation raises safety and accessibility questions for the users of the traditional irrigation system in the area.
Chega is now questioning the conditions under which the work was carried out and demands explanations regarding the lack of safety of the implemented solutions. The party considers it unacceptable that farmers have to expose themselves to risks in order to manage the water flow on their lands.
Details about when the intervention took place or which entities were responsible for it are not provided. The Chega statement comes as an alert for the need to review the technical solutions adopted in the irrigation infrastructure of that street.
