Portugal recorded the third largest rise in the employment rate among the countries considered in the second quarter of the year. This performance places the country among the European leaders in terms of labour market growth during this period.
Year-on-year, meaning comparing with the same period of the previous year, the growth in Portugal's employment rate was 2.2%. This value reflects a sustained positive evolution in hiring and economic activity in the country.
However, it was in the quarter-on-quarter variation, which compares the second quarter with the first quarter of 2024, that Portugal achieved its most outstanding position. Between April and June, the country recorded a 1% increase in the employment rate, placing it at the top of the table among the economies analysed. This data suggests an acceleration in the recovery of the Portuguese labour market in the most recent months.
