A princess at university: curious onlookers, bodyguards and great anticipation on Leonor's first day at Carlos III

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General7 September 2026 at 11:43

Princess Leonor began her classes this Monday at Carlos III University in Getafe, transforming the campus into a genuine media event. The first day of the heir to the Spanish throne was marked by enormous anticipation, with journalists, curious onlookers and security agents flooding the university space.

Among the students, the princess's presence did not go unnoticed. A young person from Carlos III commented with two colleagues in the cafeteria about the historical significance of this moment, noting that it would have been unthinkable in the Middle Ages for a peasant's son to be able to study alongside the king's daughter.

The atmosphere on campus was described as a mix of excitement and academic normalcy. Security agents remained vigilant while students and visitors moved about, some trying to photograph or observe the princess during her first day of classes at the public university.
