Burned cars and clashes between migrants: night of violence in Ceuta

CNN Portugal7 September 2026 at 11:27

The Spanish city of Ceuta, located on the north African coast, was the scene of a night of violence marked by clashes between migrants and fire incidents. The situation became particularly tense, leading to emergency interventions in various areas of the city.

Firefighters were called to fight several fires at different points in Ceuta during this night of unrest. The burned vehicles were a visible part of the wave of violence that spread across the city, creating an atmosphere of disorder and danger for local residents.

Police had to intervene in clashes that erupted between groups of migrants at various locations throughout the city. Law enforcement attempted to contain the violent episodes and restore safety to the streets affected by the unrest.

Ceuta, as a Spanish enclave on Moroccan territory, has frequently been the scene of migration-related tensions, given its strategic position at the Strait of Gibraltar. This night of violence has once again revealed the difficulties faced by both authorities and populations in managing these conflicts.
