A 70-year-old chronic patient was admitted to the emergency department of Amadora-Sintra Hospital on August 29, presenting signs that could indicate a stroke. The patient was classified with a yellow bracelet during triage, which corresponds to a moderate urgency level.
Despite this classification, the patient ended up waiting approximately 23 hours until being seen by a doctor. In total, the patient remained in the emergency room for approximately 36 hours, facing a prolonged wait to receive medical assistance.
Hospital authorities suspect that the patient's clinical file may have been forgotten among the dozens of cases that were being treated simultaneously in the emergency department at that time, which contributed to the significant delay in providing care to the elderly patient.
