Alto Minho TV7 September 2026 at 10:21

The search operations for Maria Augusta Abreu da Cunha Fernandes, 68 years old, enter a new phase today in the parish of Rubiães, in Paredes de Coura. GNR will reinforce the efforts with a canine team specialized in the detection of corpses and human remains, after six days without success in the searches.

According to a GNR source to Altominho TV, there are 12 soldiers on the ground, supported by search and rescue dogs. GNR has canine units with different specializations, including dogs trained to locate living people and others specifically prepared to detect the odor of corpses and human remains.

The authorities have no concrete leads about the woman's whereabouts, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. "We have nothing, nor any pertinent information," the source stated. In addition to GNR and the Volunteer Firefighters of Paredes de Coura, the operations have the collaboration of civilian search and rescue teams, such as the Subzone – Rescue Team from Monção.

GNR appeals to the public to report any information that may help locate the missing woman, through 968 711 360 or the GNR station of Paredes de Coura, at 251 782 123.
