A 31-year-old man was identified as the perpetrator of a fraudulent scheme targeting elderly people in the South Bank. The conman, who already has prior convictions for similar crimes, is believed to have deceived at least six elderly people between June and August this year.
The method used, known as the "little kiss scheme," was based on creating false familiarity with the victims. Through a friendly and seemingly amicable approach, the man was able to establish trust with the elderly before committing the frauds.
The authorities managed to identify the suspect and link him to the crimes committed during this three-month period. The fact that the man already had prior convictions for identical crimes suggests a pattern of recidivist behavior in the practice of this type of scam.
This type of scheme is particularly targeted at elderly people, who are often more vulnerable to approaches of false friendliness and familiarity.
