Tower crane dismantling interrupts traffic on Travessa do Lazareto

Road circulation on Travessa do Lazareto, in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, will be totally interrupted on September 19th, Saturday. The road closure will last from 9am to 6pm, affecting the section between Rua Dr. Juve and Rua Dr. Pita, according to information provided by Edital 776/2026.

The interruption is due to tower crane dismantling works, which will be carried out by the company Base Insular, Construções, S.A. The intervention is under the responsibility of the Mobility and Traffic Division of Funchal City Council, the entity that issued the edict regulating the operation.

During the intervention period, drivers will need to use alternative routes to travel in that area of the city. Authorities recommend that citizens plan their journeys in advance, in order to avoid inconvenience caused by the temporary road closure.

Couple accused of 49 sexual abuse crimes against 13-year-old girl in Montemor-o-Novo

The Public Prosecutor's Office has accused a couple from Montemor-o-Novo, in the district of Évora, of 49 sexual abuse crimes against a 13-year-old minor, their daughter. The man, 56, and the woman, 49, are accused, in joint commission, of 24 aggravated child sexual abuse crimes and 20 aggravated sexual abuse of dependent minor crimes. The man also faces three aggravated child pornography crimes and one of child procurement. The abuses occurred repeatedly, with the complicity of the mother, who lived with both defendants. The suspect filmed the acts and made offers of money to the victim. The couple was arrested by the PJ in March and placed in preventive detention.

Amazon cargo plane leaves runway in Miami, hits vehicles and leaves five dead
