The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) seized 20,226 liters of bottled wine from a producer-wholesaler located in the municipality of Gouveia, Guarda district. The seizure took place under operation "Safe Label", initiated due to violations of legal labeling rules, namely the omission of product origin.
The inspection action was conducted by ASAE's Regional Unit of the Center, with participation from the Specialized Brigade for Wines and Viticultural Products. The seized batch included red, white and rosé wine, already bottled and ready to be introduced into the consumption circuit. Following the detected irregularities, a contravention proceedings was opened against the operator.
ASAE warned that the absence of mandatory information on labels compromises the integrity of the commercial circuit, creates competitive imbalances and represents a risk to consumer safety. The authority emphasized the strategic importance of the wine sector for the national economy and indicated that it will continue to strengthen inspection actions to combat deceptive practices and ensure fair competition among market operators.
