Portuguese authorities investigated a suspicious boat in the Meco area, after a fisherman alerted the Maritime Police to an alleged arrival of migrants at a beach in the region. The situation led to the initial hypothesis that a migrant landing could have occurred.
GNR and the Maritime Police proceeded with the investigation of the incident to clarify the circumstances of the boat's presence in the coastal area. Officers analyzed the situation on the ground after receiving the alert from the fisherman.
Following the investigations carried out, authorities concluded that no migrant landing had occurred. The exclusion of this possibility came after the discovery of jerrycans with gasoline at the location, which changed the initial perspective on the nature of the incident.
