The Eborense athlete Pedro Brito, who represents Grupo União Sport de Montemor-o-Novo, achieved a remarkable 6th place at the Spain FootGolf Open, held between September 3rd and 6th at the Fairplay Golf Club in Cádiz. The competition brought together approximately 200 players from various countries, in one of the most important international tournaments of the sport, and the Alentejo athlete managed to stay among the best, even competing for the top positions until the last hole.
The result gains even greater significance given the difficulties that FootGolf is currently facing in Portugal. Without available fields to train nearby and with the sport practically without competitive activity in the country for about three months, Pedro Brito arrived in Spain without the usual training and competition rhythm of elite athletes.
Pedro Brito highlighted the adverse circumstances in which he achieved this result, stating that, since there has been no FootGolf in Portugal for about three months and without fields to train nearby, it was an excellent position to have competed until the last hole for first place. The Portuguese player responded with consistency, concentration and ability to overcome challenges, managing to finish among the top six in an internationally sized tournament.
The result constitutes a milestone in the career of the Eborense athlete and a source of pride for Grupo União Sport de Montemor-o-Novo and for Alentejo sports. Despite falling just short of the podium, Pedro Brito made it clear that the dream of winning the Spain FootGolf Open remains very much alive and that he will not give up on achieving it.
