Thousands of motorcyclists return to Fatima for the Blessing of the Helmets

Jornal O Almeirinense7 September 2026 at 09:55

Thousands of motorcyclists, coming from all over the country and abroad, will gather on September 20 at the Sanctuary of Fatima for the 11th Pilgrimage of the Blessing of the Helmets. According to the Sanctuary of Fatima, the initiative aims to provide "a day of prayer and fellowship," with the active participation of motorcyclists in various moments of the celebrations.

The pilgrimage, which will take place at Cova da Iria, will be presided over by the Patriarch of Lisbon, D. Rui Valério. The participants will collaborate in welcoming pilgrims, reciting the Rosary, carrying the processional canopy, proclaiming the readings, and assisting with the distribution of Communion.

The main novelty of this edition is the holding of the Blessing of the Helmets, for the first time, also in the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira. The dioceses of Angra and Funchal will host celebrations, on the same day, in a similar format to the pilgrimage held in Fatima.

The initiative is promoted by the Association Blessing of the Helmets.
