The court will have two possible decisions. It may rule in favor of Germany and dismiss the case on procedural grounds, or it may decide against Berlin, which would mean the case would be analyzed in detail and judged "on the merits," entering into substantial questions about Germany's alleged complicity.
Germany, in turn, presented its arguments to try to prevent the case from proceeding, seeking to convince the judges that there is no sufficient legal basis for Nicaragua to bring the accusation in that court. The country denies the accusations and maintains that its actions do not constitute facilitation of genocide.
