Nepal death toll rises to 1,355 and nearly five thousand still missing

The death toll in Nepal rose to 1355, according to the latest available count. The country still has nearly five thousand people missing following the earthquake that hit the region on Saturday.

Large-scale search and rescue operations continued this Monday looking for more than 5500 people reported missing on both sides of the Nepalese border.

The earthquake of magnitude 7.8 hit Nepal on Saturday, causing massive destruction, especially in the capital Kathmandu. The tremor was felt in neighboring countries such as India, Bangladesh and Tibet.

Rescue teams from various countries, including India and China, are already on the ground to support the relief operations. The Nepalese government declared a state of emergency while facing one of the worst natural disasters in its recent history.
