An armed man attacked the Democratic Party candidate for governor of Ohio, Amy Acton, on Sunday (6), during a campaign event at the Canfield Fair. The suspect was arrested carrying "multiple weapons" after knocking volunteers to the ground, according to a statement from the chairman of the party in Mahoning County, Chris Anderson.
Amy Acton, who is a doctor and former state Secretary of Health, was not injured in the attack but helped tend to volunteers who worked on her campaign. The candidate was wearing a gray blazer at the time of the incident.
Among the witnesses to the attack was former Democratic Congressman John Boccieri, who told CNN he saw a "very large white man" who "ran into the tent and started knocking people down, as if trying to get to her." The attacker was still holding something unspecified at the time of the report.
