Interview Elmano de Freitas: 'Ciro Gomes has become an appendage of Bolsonaro-ism'

oglobo7 September 2026 at 07:30

The re-election candidate in Ceará, Governor Elmano de Freitas (PT), gave an interview to GLOBO in which he reinforced his public security discourse. The socialist also accused his rival Ciro Gomes (PDT) of trying to weaken President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the Northeast region to benefit the right in the elections.

Electoral polls show that Elmano's government is well evaluated, but Ciro Gomes leads in voting intentions. The PT governor stated that this is normal during the campaign and that throughout the electoral period he clarifies his achievements to the population.

According to Elmano, the election in Ceará presents two well-defined projects: on one side, Ciro Gomes' candidacy, which is allied with Bolsonaro-ism through SenatorFlávio Bolsonaro (PL presidential candidate); on the other, the re-election candidacy of Lula, which has Elmano's support.

Ciro's allies, including his own brother Ivo Gomes, campaign for the combined Lula-Ciro vote. The socialist tries to demonstrate that this alliance is contradictory, linking his opponent directly to Bolsonaro-ism.
