Brussels proposed strengthening judicial cooperation with eight countries in combating organized crime. The measure aims to improve coordination between judicial authorities of member states and third countries to tackle cross-border criminal networks.
The Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for Security, Henna Virkkunen, warned that criminal groups currently cross borders with ease and exploit new technologies to escape Justice.
The proposal comes in a context of growing concern about organized crime in the European Union, which has become more sophisticated and international in its operations.
