In testimony, 'Bitcoin Pharaoh' says he is a 'whale' and admits to having manipulated the cryptocurrency market

oglobo7 September 2026 at 01:09

In unprecedented testimonies given in court, Glaidson Acácio dos Santos, known as the "Pharaoh of Bitcoin," and his wife Mirelis Yoseline Diaz Zerpa detailed how the scheme worked, which according to authorities moved more than R$ 38 billion and may have left 77 thousand victims. The statements were revealed by Fantástico, a TV Globo program, in the case that will judge whether the couple committed crimes against the financial system.

Glaidson admitted to being a cryptocurrency "whale," a term used to designate investors who hold quantities of assets sufficient to influence market price. According to him, as a "whale," he was able to manipulate other cryptocurrencies and had contacts to carry out these operations.

The criminal process has entered the final stretch, but one of the main mysteries has yet to be solved: the exact value in the Pharaoh of Bitcoin's cryptocurrency wallet, which remains without an official answer.
