The secondary school completion rate is lower in the Lisbon, Setúbal and Algarve regions compared to other parts of the country. In the 2024/2025 school year, according to the most recent annual official data, 2,078,116 students were enrolled in the Portuguese education system. This number represents an increase of 9,326 students compared to the previous school year.
