AfD dominates Saxony-Anhalt Landtag and CDU sinks

The far-right AfD clearly won the regional elections in Saxony-Anhalt, securing entry into the Landtag together with CDU, Die Linke, SPD and BSW, according to the latest projections. The FDP fell below the 5% threshold and failed to achieve parliamentary representation.

With 44.2% of the votes, the AfD was far ahead of the CDU, which suffered a significant decline in voting intentions. The other parties that achieved representation in the regional parliament were the radical left of Die Linke, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the new party BSW.

This result consolidates the AfD's growth trend in German regional elections, which has been reinforcing its presence in the country's state parliaments. The far-right party has managed to mobilize growing support among voters in different regions of Germany.
